The Adamawa state governor, Murtala Nyako have dismissed allegations leveled against his governmentfor discrimination against Christians, describing it as fictitious and baseless.
Governor Nyako said during his tenure all religious beliefs were given equal rights to practice their belief without let or hindrance, as provided by the Nigerian Constitution, adding that the accusation of any outstanding Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of any Christian group in Adamawa state, which the governor refused to signed was utterly false.
The position was made through a press statement, issued and signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Malam Ahmad Sajoh.
The governor noted with concern the deliberate falsehood being promoted by a group called Christian Elders Forum of Northern States which postulates that the Government of Adamawa state was discriminating against Christian minorities.
“This is not only blatantly false but a clear indication that the group has motives other than the promotion of peace and peaceful co-existence in our state. Their assertion is totally at variance with realities on ground in Adamawa state,” the statement noted.
It added that the use of minorities in Adamawa state was a misnomer, as the 21 Local Governments of the state have large and fair distribution of Muslims, Christians and other religions.
