The father of gold medal in gymnastics at the just concluded All Africa games in Morocco Daniel Eke has said that his family himself is very much at pleased seeing his lovely son representing Nigeria at international level.
Uche Eke win gold medals for Nigeria after beating Egyptians and Algeria in pommel horse top event and a bronze in artistic to lift the medal table for the country.
Uche’s mother is an American but he chose to represent Nigeria his father’s home land.
“My son had earlier represented Nigeria for the first time at a competition held in South Africa about two years ago before coming to the Africa Games in Morocco for Nigeria.
He started this game at five and made sure he match it with education, he is a graduate of Computer Science, my family also ensure that he represent Nigeria, my son have been saying he want to represent Nigeria, we are happy today the dream come to reality at international level, “ Eke enthused.
Eke, urged other Nigerians in Diaspora to help in improving sports in the country.
“We have a lot of Nigerians in foreign lands doing well in sports. If they can come home to help athletes in each federation with their experience, we will get better.
“Our sports will be well developed and will be improved and we will be competing better at international events and we will be winning medals.
“My son was born in the U.S. and his mother an American but he has been dreaming of coming to Nigeria to represent the country in international competitions,’’ he said.
Uche came with his father and mother to Morocco for the 12th Africa games for huge motivation that enable him secured the 2020 Olympics ticket.
