A student of Government Secondary School, Kubwa under the FCT Secondary Education Board management, Godstime Akhindenor clinched first position, in the senior category in the Olympiad mathematics competition at the just concluded 55th Annual National Mathematical Association Conference held in Abuja.
Receiving the victorious student, Principal n Teacher in his office,the FCT Secondary Education Board Chairman, Hon Musa Yahaya Muhammed expressed his delight at the grand success of the senior school .
He explained that, mathematics is an important subject among other equally important subjects that requires intensive attention with technicality in solving lots of world problems.
The chairman opined that the Olympiad mathematics competition is a well thought out initiative by the organisers to further encourage students to boost their interest in calculation skills and help them love the subjects as well as removed mathematics phobia through clearer logical reasoning,concentration and observance technique among other benefits.
He commended the student,principal and teacher for their unrelenting efforts to continue to place the Board and FCT in a limelight.
According to him, the school’s ability to identify and develop students calculation skills is an evidence that,the strategies already put in place in repositioning the schools by the Board management to further enhance the students photographic memory and sharpens overall mental formation is yielding positive result and making impact on the students whose priority is vital in the teaching and learning process.
He added further that,the strategies among others have provided a solid learning foundation for FCT students and assuring that,the Board will not relent in providing the learning tools in the teaching of subjects in addition to qualified teachers .
Also speaking, Head of Division,Science, Technology and Mathematics,Hajia Ramahtu Kamar said, mathematical reasoning is one of the most important goals of school education needed to succeed in everyday life hence the emphasis on impactful teaching that will help the students all through their life.
Responding, the Principal, Government Secondary School,Kubwa, Mr. Nuhu Musa thanked the Board for creating a unit that deals with Mathematics.
He added that,the subject is a methodical application which requires step by step attention and the Board has helped to sharpen the students concentration on mathematics and other subjects through the introduction of various teaching strategies.
He noted that,the emphasis on the need to have space for graph in each classroom by Mr. John Kure of the Monitoring and Evaluation unit of the Board was an additional knowledge and advantage to schools.
