The Niger State House of Assembly has been inaugurated and Hon. Abdullahi Bawa Wuse emerged as the Speaker of the house for the 9th legislative Assembly.
A first term member Hon. Wuse was nominated by the immediate past speaker, Hon. Ahmed Marsha Guni yesterday at the Assembly complex in Minna.
Those who indicated interest for the speakership were the immediate past speaker, Ahmed Marafa Guni for Chanchaga constituency, Hon. Madaki Malik Bosso of Bosso constituency and Shuibu Liman Iyah of Suleja constituency.
Though, Iyah was not sworn in due to a pending court case who is in a legal tussle with Hon. Mohammed Badaru over the seat.
Consequently, Hon. Abdullahi Bawa is a trained lawyer who was born in 1963 in Sabon-Wuse, Tafa local government of Niger state.
The new speaker was a former chairman of Tafa local government and also served as commissioner of local government and chieftaincy Affairs as well as commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Niger state in the administration of former Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
Bawa Wuse however dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Party, APC; contested and won to represent his constituency.
Meanwhile, a member representing Bida 1, Hon. Bako Kassim Alfa emerged as the deputy speaker.
Hon. Alfa is a second term member who was born in 1960. The deputy speaker also served as the education committee chairman of the last assembly.
The were sworn in as speaker and deputy speaker respectively by the Clerk of the Assembly, Abdullahi Mohammed Kagara.
