The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has banned all activities, including tourism, fishing, visits and other activities around the popular Usuma Dam, located in Ushafa community in Bwari Area council.
There are four major tourist attractions at the Usuma Dam, which include hiking, boat riding, picnics, and parties and swimming, which observers believe could generate billions of naira revenue for the administration.
Checks revealed that the ban was placed by the immediate past minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, to protect the area from abuse.
An official of the administration, who pleaded anonymity, explained that the minister took the decision because, he wanted visitors and other people to stay away from the dam, which is the only source of water to residents of the FCT.
He said that the minister has noted allowing tourists and other visitors to and within the dam area could led to pollution of the source of water for FCT residents, which according to him, has a lot dangerous implications.
