Herders, farmers crisis: Benue groups reject Osinbajo C’ttee

From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

Socio-cultural organizations in Benue State have outrightly condemned the constitution of Federal government committee on Fulani, farmers’ clashes headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The organizations comprising of Mzough U Tiv, Idoma National Forum and Omi NY’igede at a press conference yesterday in Makurdi, described the committee as ‘diversionary’, noting that the main issue of incessant attacks and killings of farmers by suspected Fulani herdsmen should be addressed.
“The Osinbajo committee is diversionary. We are not part of it. They want to shift attention from the main issue. The Federal governments know what took place here because we gave them information of where the invaders were coming from. We reject the committee and if called upon, we would not be party to it. The committee is therefore unnecessary and a waste of time and resources. A committee is not needed to arrest perpetrators of this genocide.
“Is the FG unwilling to do the needful or is she siding with the notorious murderers to exterminate the Benue people? Is seem like it is only in this country that people openly declare war on others and the government does not question them or do anything to avert the killing. Government should stop chasing imaginary shadows. We call on the Security agencies in Nigeria to be awake to their responsibilities and arrest the culprits of the criminal invasion of Benue State,” they said.
Leader of the group, Chief Edward Ujege also, drew the attention of the world to fresh threats of bloodshed in Benue State by the Vice President, Miyetti Allah Cattle Herders, Husaini Yusuf Bosso published in a national daily, not Peoples Daily on 13th January 2018 and President, Fulani Nationality Movement, FUNAM, Badu Salisu Ahmadu at a press conference in Kaduna on the same day.
He expressed regrets that despite the horrendous and barbaric murder of over two thousand Benue Indigenes in the past seven (7) years and heinous massacre of over 70 innocent people on the first of January, 2018 as well as the wanton destruction of property, the Miyetti Allah and other Fulani groups such as Fulani Nationality Movement are still sounding the gongs of genocide against our helpless people.
