Following rampant killing of innocent Nigerians between the herdsmen and farmers, Gombe state Police Command has sensitized the public to be security conscious in their environment.
Gombe state Police Commissioner Mr. Shina Tairu Olukolu in a paper presented with the theme: Community Policing Approach in a Challenging Environment, said security challenges have proved that the police and other security agencies must work with the community in order to protect the lives and property of the people.
While emphasizing the need of expanding critical security stakeholders forum in order to enhance community policing, the commissioner called on farmers and herders as matter of urgency to identify and solve problems affecting them.
He said there is need to monitor cattle routes and criminal hideout in order to give useful information, adding that priority attention to be given in providing amenities along cattle routes to discourage herders from straying into farms and cities to wreck havoc.
In his remarks, Gombe state Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo who was represented by his Deputy Mr. Charles Iliya assured of government’s commitment in taking its primary responsibility of protecting lives and property of the people.
Governor Dankwambo who considered numerous security challenges facing the nation said there is need for the public to assist the security agencies to carry out their responsibility effectively.
He called on the participants to be open minded and contribute freely to enable the police re-strategize communities in a better policing service.
