Heavy rainstorm yesterday caused massive destruction to houses and properties of residents of Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Peoples Daily reports that the rain, which started at about 10 pm, was accompanied by heavy wind that blew off the roof of houses, destroying hundreds of electric poles and pulling down several big trees.

Worst areas hit by the storm include Wadata, Wurukum, High-level, Ankpa quarters, where the Zone D police station had its roof pulled off as well as North the bank.

As at the time of filing this report, many residents were seen re-roofing their houses while shop owners were cleaning up debris around their areas.

The rain came at a time when the people had complained bitterly of extreme heat in the environs, which was exacerbated by poor electricity supply.
