Health board to immunize mothers, distribute free drugs

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Primary Health Care Development Board will distribute free drugs and perform immuisation exercises between November 17 to 21 20014.

The executive secretary, FCT Primary Health Care Development Board (FCTPHCB), Dr. Rilwan Mohammed, said this at the opening of staff training workshop for November 2014 second maternal, new born and child week in the FCT, with the theme’ Package of care for a healthy family’.

The Executive Secretary, noted that during the week mothers are advised to visit the nearest primary health care centers in their locality, where they will be offered free deworming tablets for children 12-59 months, vitamin A supplements for children 6-59 months.

He added that there will be antenatal care for pregnant women, HIV counseling /testing, birth registration and family planning programmes.

Mohammed said the exercise is aimed at delivering an integrated packaged interventions to ensure the welfare of women and children in FCT, the FCT administration is committed to improve the quality health care for its residents.

While, appealing for active participation of resident’s involvement during the week, advising the residents to regularly wash their hands, and imbibe the habit of personnel hygiene and exclusive breastfeeding for their children.

He added that the train the trainers’ workshop will also see the distribution of equipment to be used during the week to the affected council s of the territory.
