Ahead of the forthcoming distribution of Permanent voters’ cards by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), residents of Gwagwalada area council have been urged to turn out during the exercise.
According to the INEC officer in charge of the council of Mrs. Jumai Abubakar, who made the call, residents should also ensure continuous voters registration in the area.
While delivering a speech during the voters’ sensitization meeting with the stakeholders yesterday, she disclosed that the distribution of permanent voters card will commence from the 15th to 17th of August, 2014.
She added that the continuous voters’ registration would take place on the 20th to 25th August, 2014, urging the electorates to come out to register at the centre closest to them.
The officer therefore assured the residents that the necessary facilities or materials will be provided for the smooth running of the programme in the area.
According to her, the leadership of INEC would not allow the people to collect their permanent voters’ card by proxy, while advising them to endeavour to go to their polling units to collect the cards for themselves.
The INEC officer, however, appealed to the traditional rulers to mobilize their subjects to come out en masse for the programme.
On his part, the Vice-Chairman of the area council, Hon. Saidu Abdulla hi, who represented the chairman of the council, Hon. Abubakar Jibrin Giri, said that the administration would complement the efforts of INEC by enlightening the electorates for the programme.
