Inhabitants of Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have sent a “Save Our Soul (SOS) message” to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Gwagwalada police unit command, Mr. Patrick Daorr, over the increasing cases of rape, in the area.

This is coming on the heels of latest incident, where a seven years old girl, Jamila Danlami, was allegedly raped by a fifty years old man, Mr. Habibu Yaro, in the area.

Some of the residents, who spoke with Peoples Daily yesterday, in Gwagwalada, lamented that the incident is becoming an every affair.

Specifically, they expressed their concerns that the perpetrators seemed to be targeting only teenagers below 10 years in the area.

A resident, Mr Samson John, expressed dismay over the rape of young girls from the ages of six to seven by some wicked men in the area.

Another resident, Mr Bala Saleh, recalled that about three weeks ago, a middle aged man allegedly raped a 9-yr-old girl, who was hawking things around some areas at Angwan Geshi, in Gwagwalada.

Similarly, a local food seller (mama put) , Mrs. Salamatu Abdullahi, said it was high time that the relevant security agencies in the area do something about the situation, as the rape of the teenagers has become rampant in Gwagwalada.

She however noted that the situation has become most worrisome to both stakeholders in the Muslim and Christian communities.

She therefore appealed to the Gwagwalada police unit command ensure to charge the few arrested rape suspects to the law court for prosecution for their alleged devilish acts.

Not left out, a police officer in the area who pleaded anonymity revealed that the station at least now receives reports of rape every two week.
