The Secretary of Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hajiya Aminat Adah Alimi, has said that plans are underway to empower women in the area.
She said the empowerment programme would focus on the less privileged ones in the society, pointing out that the beneficiaries of the programme would cut across the ten political wards of Gwagwalada.
Alimi made the disclosure while fielding questions from newsmen during the Cultural Day celebration of Idoma West Community Development Association Gwagwalada, held at the Pilot Science Primary School in the area.
She said the management of the Area Council would continue to empower women in the area.
In particular, she revealing that about 170 women were empowered financially during the empowerment workshop, which took place in Garki, Abuja recently.
Stressing the importance of women in the society, the Council Secretary said: “We would empower women more, because women are the managers of their homes.”
Commenting on the award bestowed on her, she said the award would ginger her to continue impact positively on the lives of Idoma People and other tribes in the area.
She therefore thanked the executives of Idoma Association for the honour done to her, while dedicating the award to Almighty God.
Also responding to question on the welfare of the teachers in the area, the secretary disclosed that arrangements had been concluded to pay the arrears of the teachers soon.
