Gwagwalada Council restates resolve to curtail measles

Authorities of Gwagwalada Area Council have reiterated readiness to eradicate measles through Intensive and effective vaccination campaign in the area.
According to him, Head, Department of Health in the Council, Dr. Adeyemi Adeniran, who made the disclosure, measles is a contagious preventable disease that responds to vaccination and called on parents to take advantage of the opportunity.
He noted that the vaccination is facility based but other people will be going from house to house to ensure that children within the ages of zero to five are immunised against measles.
He warned that it can cause blindness, brain injury, cough and even death but these can be prevented through routine immunisation.
Dr. Adeniran further explained that the vaccination is free of charge with no cost to the parents.
The HOD Health expressed hope that the measles campaign will success, noting that the team has put lessons learnt from the poliomyelitis immunisation exercise to avoid cases of rejection.
He said as part of preparation, the team had done an advocacy visit to the chairman, had a social mobilisation meeting with all the committees involved, carried out education and entertainment activities twice at Gwagwalada market, Paiko market and community dialogue and others to stem the tide of rejection.
“We have trained our house to house mobilizers, recorders and vaccinators to ensure a comprehensive measles vaccination campaign,” he stressed.
He further stated that the team has entered into a pact with heads of schools and health teachers to ensure that all stakeholders join hands to improve the health index of the council by immunising our children to meet the set target.
