The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) is hosting the 15th National Conference of Academic Society for Arabic Language and Literature in Nigeria (ASALLIN) organized in collaboration with Department of Arabic on the topic “Arabic Education in Nigeria Between Reality and Aspiration”.
The Conference which was scheduled to take place between 28th and 31st of October, 2019 has former Secretary to the State Government, Zamfara State, Professor Abdullahi Muhammad Shinkafi as the Chairman of the Occasion.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Shinkafi extended his sincere appreciation to the organizers for chosen him as the Chairman of the occasion and thanked the ASALLIN on behalf of the entire people of Zamfara State for also chosen Zamfara State to host the conference.
He stated that the importance of Arabic Language especially to Muslims could not be over emphasized, considering the fact that a single Arabic vowel could change the meaning of a verse in the Holy Qur’an.
“An average Muslim should know how to speak Arabic Language, so that to know the meaning of verses in the Holy Qur’an. Unfortunately, the syllables of our education system are not geared towards that”, he said.
He urged the participants to listen attentively to the presentations to be carried out at the conference so that they could get the best out of it.
While delivering his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Magaji Garba represented by the University Librarian, Dr. Aliyu Gadanga Tsafe, welcomed all participants to the conference and thanked the ASALLIN for selecting FUGUS to be the host of the conference.
Dr. Gadanga Tsafe highlighted some of the major achievements recorded by the University since it’s inception in 2013 and urged the participants to go round the University to see for themselves some developmental projects executed in the University.
He stated that the University had also gotten accreditation of some courses it was offering from National Universities Commission (NUC) and also an approval for the split of a Faculty of Humanities and Education as well as some departments.
Also speaking, the President of ASALLIN, Professor M.M.M. Jimba thanked the Department of Arabic and especially the Management of the University for accepting to host the Conference.
