From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

Some unknown gunmen, yesterday, murdered a young man, said to be in his twenties, along Katsina-Ala street, in Makurdi, Benue state capital.

This is just as a Makurdi magistrate court directed that two men, Imoter Pila and Simon Oryiman be remanded in prison custody for homicide.

The young man, identified as MacAnthony Jnr., was said to have been murdered in presence of his father, Mr. Anthony Usereme, a.k.a MacAnthony, who owns a popular supermarket on the high-brow street.

Eyewitness said the two were going home after they had closed for the day’s sale, when some unidentified persons attacked the son and brutally manhandled him, resulting in his death at an undisclosed hospital.

However, police spokesman, Daniel Ezeala, said the incident happened at about 9 p.m., when some unknown persons attacked a man and his son while they went to throw away refuse along Katsina-Ala Street. He said police have commenced immediate investigation into the death with a view to unraveling the killers.

Meanwhile, the Prosecuting Police Officer, Sgt. Gabriel Ebonyi, in the case of homicide case, had told the court that Imoter Pila and Sunday Oryiman allegedly robbed one Ibrahim Mohammed and killed his 24-year old son, Jabulu.

Sgt. Ebonyi said the case was transferred from Katsina-Ala Division to the Department of Criminal Investigation, State Headquarters, Makurdi through a letter, adding that Mohammed who resides in Hausa Quarters in Katsina-Ala had reported the matter at the Katsina-Ala Police Station on April 12, 2014.

Mohammed told the police that he was together with his five children in his shop at Hausa Quarters in Katsina-Ala on April 10 when three unknown armed men attacked and robbed them of over N2.3 million.

He also alleged that they carted away from him MTN recharge cards valued at N4.8 million, Glo recharge cards valued at N3.6 million, Airtel recharge cards valued at N1.5 million and then murdered his son.

No plea was taken for want of jurisdiction during the hearing even as Prosecuting Officer informed the court that investigation into the matter was ongoing and prayed for another date for mention

The trial magistrate, Mr. Cyril Enyi therefore, adjourned the matter to June 3, 2014 for further mention.
