There was pandemonium in Fadan-Karshi a village of Sanga local government area of Kaduna state, on Tuesday night, when suspected gunmen stormed the area and attacked a police station, killing 2 policemen, including three women in the area.
Report from the area said the attackers stormed the area at about 8:30 PM on a motorcycle and started shooting sporadically.
It was also gathered that 2 of the attackers were also killed by the youth in the village making the total of people killed during the attack to seven.
Contacted, Sanga Local Government Chairman Mr. Emmanuel Adamu confirmed the incident, saying those that sustain injuries were receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
“We lost 2 policemen, an Inspector and a Corporal and three others who were killed while two other sustained injury. All together we lost 7 people because the youth in the area were able to kill 2 of the attackers. The gunmen headed straight to the Fadan Karshi police station on a motorcycle shooting sporadically,” he said on phone.
The chairman further added that the situation has been brought under control as police and soldiers were deployed to the area.
Peoples Daily also gathered that the State Commissioner Umar Shehu visited the community yesterday (Wednesday) to ascertain the situation.
Contacted State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Aminu Lawal confirmed the attack as he added that the command is Investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero condemned the attack, describing the act as a ‘provocative attempt by hoodlums to throw the state into confusion’.
In a statement issued by his Director-General Media and Publicity, Ahmed Maiyaki, the Governor condoled with families of victims of the unwarranted attack on policemen and innocent citizens in the area.
He called on people in the area and other parts of the state to remain calm as security forces have already been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
Governor Yero also urged the people to remain united and resolute in resisting obvious attempts by agents of darkness to create confusion and sow seeds of discord in the state.
“Security agencies have already commenced investigation into the matter and are on the tracks of the criminals. No stone shall be left unturned in our resolve to bring perpetrators of this attack and all other criminal assault on our people in the past to justice,” he said.
The governor called on the entire people of Kaduna State to continue to live in peace with one another and to become more vigilant in observing happenings in their areas with a view to assisting security agencies with relevant information on suspicious persons and movements within and around their communities.
