The villagers in Shelewal village of Numan Local Government Area in Adamawa state have been thrown into mourning with the Monday night attack that claimed the lives of over 30 people mostly children and women by yet to be identified assailants.
Reports from the area indicated that the attackers launched their ungodly and murderous mission in the wee hours of Monday night while their victims were deep asleep not knowing death was knocking on their doors.
An eye witness who pleaded anonymity told journalists in Yola that ,the District Head of Numan had earlier warned the villagers and their families to vacate the area but just no cause. The villagers predominantly Fulani settlers felt threatened and approached him for dialogue but he allegedly told them to leave the area immediately.
“Honestly, the District Head of Numan told us to leave our village unceremoniously and tried to persuade him to us to continue leaving as a peaceful residents but he insisted we must vacant his land”.
“We then informed a journalist brother, who leaked us with a lawyer for a formal complaint to be lodge to the AIG Zone 3 Yola but before we know, we were attacked mercilessly “.The Eye witness alleged.
Confirming the incident, spokesman of the police in the state, S.P Othman Abubakar said the attack was carried out in the night killing over thirty people and many injured.
Abubakar added that, investigation has since commenced to unravel those behind such atrocity for possible prosecution over the matter urging people with useful information to assist the security agents.
In a related development, two female suicide bombers and the local chairman of Vigilante group of Madagali local government Area,Mallam Yau Haruna lost their lives in a early morning attack yesterday (Tuesday) in Bakin Dutse village of the council (Madagali) in Adamawa state.
Confirming the attack, Police Public Relations Officer,PPRO in the state, S.P Othman Abubakar said that, a nine old female suicide bomber sneaked in to Bakin Dutse village and challenged by the vigilante leader, she hurriedly grabbed him in to her body loaded with improvised explosive device and suddenly detonated it killing herself and him instantly.
Abubakar stated that incident happened at about 5:05AM yesterday morning where the second bomber detonated her IEDs before reaching her target and died instantly too.
He however appealed to people to be watchful of strangers with questionable character in their societies.
