Gunmen invade Zamfara market, kill 4

Hundreds of gunmen suspected to be recalcitrant bandits on Monday invaded a market in Birnin Tsaba village under Birnin Magaji local government area of Zamfara State, shooting sporadically and killing three people.
The Zamfara State Command spokesman , SP Shehu Muhammad, said three people were killed by the bandits during the attack.
However, a survivor’s account put the casualty figure at four.
The survivor of the attack who preferred anonymity, said, while the weekly market of Birnin Tsaba was in full session last Monday, hundreds of bike-riding gunmen stormed the market and started shooting sporadically.
“It was later we were made to understand that, the bandits were after two local militias who were twin brothers from the neighboring Birnin Magaji local government headquarters, they targeted at them and shot in amidst of traders who were running for safety.
“It was learnt that, the deceased twins had become a great obstacle to the bandits in Birnin Magaji as they always derail their nasty mission in their community. And for the bandits, they have chosen this time when all local militias have surrendered their weapons as directed by the state government”, the survivor narrated.
A woman trader woman who also survived the attack narrated that, “I was negotiating the price of my cooking oil with one of my regular customer when I saw people running towards every direction in the market and were shouting for help at the top of their voices.
“Just then I heard the unpleasant sounds of guns followed by a voice directing for attack on the deceased twins at all cost, and was telling people on the run to be calm, ‘our aim was to kill only two persons’, but yet the running for safety continued”, the woman said.
According to a motorbike seller who witnessed the killing, “The deceased twins alongside many more other customers were at my shade to patronize my market, just we heard gunshots, and in less than a minute the bandits arrived.
“The next thing was to opened fire on the targeted twins as they tried to took to their heels, in the course of which two other persons from Garin Tsaba and Birnin Tsaba who stayed close to the twins were hit by the fired ammunitions and killed”, the eyewitness said.
Confirming the attack , Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Zamfara State Command, SP Shehu Muhammad, said three people were killed by the bandits during the attack on Birnin Magaji market session last Monday.
The PPRO further informed that, the Police team were since deployed with a view to arresting the perpetrators for prosecution. He urged the general public public to always report questionable signs of dastardly acts planned by criminals for prompt actions.
