The police have arraigned a 19-year old security guard, ThankGod Mathias, in an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ court, sitting in Life Camp, for alleged negligence of duty.
The accused, of Virgo Security Company Nigeria Ltd., Abuja, attached to House 13, Road 6, Godab Estate, Life Camp,Abuja, is standing trail on a one-count charge of negligent conduct.
The prosecutor, Insp. Bitrus Audu, told the court that one Mr. Ogbodo James, of House no. 13, Road 6, Godab Estate, Life Camp, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on June 29.
Audu said the accused person was posted by the management of Virgo Security Company to guard the house and its environs.
He said Mathias failed to perform his duty effectively thereby allowing three unknown men to burgle the building and steal various items there.
The prosecutor said the crime was committed at about the 3.30 a.m. while the complainant and his family were asleep.
He said the stolen items include gold jewelry, one HP laptop computer, four wrist watches, one I phone, and a hard drive, all valued at N850, 000, as well as N7, 000 in cash.
The accused pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him.
Senior Magistrate Zubairu Mohammed granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one reliable surety in like sum.
Mohammed said the surety must have a reasonable means of livelihood and should be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
The magistrate adjourned the matter till July 22 for further hearing. (NAN)
