Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Justice and Equity has urged the Presidency to immediately set up an independent executive committee to thoroughly investigate and unravel the truth behind the allegations raised against Inspector General Police, Ibrahim Idris, by Senator Misau.
While briefing the press, the leader of the Coalition, Edime Amade, stated that apart from the ongoing public hearing by the Senate, and the separate committee from the presidency, the EFCC, ICPC, DSS and NIA should also conduct a thorough investigation.
“The EFCC, ICPC, DSS and NIA should conduct a thorough investigation into the heaps of allegations raised against IGP Idris by Senator Misau with a view to justifying the anti-corruption stance of the present administration”, the group said.
He also added that the IGP Idris should immediately resign honourably from his office being that he has lost integrity and the moral standing to lead the Nigeria Police Force.
The group said, “That the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice performs his duties creditably by advising President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR to remove IGP Idris from office within five working days from today.
“That the IGP Idris be thereafter recommended for prosecution in a court of competent jurisdiction so as to salvage the image of the Nigeria Police Force and serve as deterrence to other criminally minded public officers.
“That IGP Idris and his policemen should remedy the wrong meted to Peace Corps of Nigeria by vacating their headquarters forthwith in the interest of peace, justice and fairness,” he said.
The group added that if its demands were not met, it will mobilize its members in large number for mass action until the attention of the international community is drawn.
