Group takes Geno-type awareness, sensitization campaign to Sheikh Gumi market

A Non-Governmental Organization, Sickle Cell Patient Health Promotion Centre (SCPHPC), yesterday embarked on awareness and sensitization campaign on the importance of Geno-type testing by Nigerians before marriage.
The event took place at Sheikh Abubakar Gumi market popularly known as Kaduna Central Market.
Speaking to the media during the sensitization exercise, founder of SCPHPC, Hajiya Badiyya Magaji Inuwa, said the Centre went round the popular market so that people would understand its aims and objectives.
According to her, the Centre decided to carry out the awareness and sensitization to encourage people to go for blood test so as to know their genotype before marriage.
She added that people should check their blood groupings as it will be too late and difficult to call it quit at the alter having been in such relationship for a long time.
“I plead with the youth, and especially those of child bearing age to go for geno-type test. The same thing goes for the divorcees, widows and widowers if the intend to get married again.
“It is up to the people to listen to this advice since we have had experience. At least, I have played my own part by creating awareness and this is what I promised my God that once I know the cause, I will tell the people to avoid it.
“As a mother of a child with SS, I know what I went through with my late son and also with the surviving one. So I don’t want any parent to suffer like I did. This is just an advice, it is not compulsory, but it’s up to the person to do it.
