Group under the auspices of womenhood School of Health sciences Kaduna, has sensitized members of Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Kaduna Council, on how to protect themselves from the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Directorl of the Group, Mr. Nureeden Bello, made the assertion during a sensitization campaign held in kaduna yesterday..
Bello said the enlightenment is necessary on the ground that Journalists are more prone to the virus, because of the nature of their Job.
The Group also donated to the council dozens of Facemasks, alcohol based sanitizers, hand washing basins and two digital thermometers.
“It is imperative for Journalists to know that Covid-19 is near to them, noted that the Press gadgets such as microphone can as well contract the virus which is very detrimental to the society as the middle men mingle with both the upper and lower class of Individuals everyday to file their stories.
“Journalists are the mouth piece of the people. They are always with the poor and the rich. So the enlightenment is necessary so as to keep them safe. They should be vigilant and discipline.” He said.
Responding to questions from Journalists after the lecture, Mrs. Amina Ibrahim, a member of the Group, noted that the society will be safe if Journalists are safe, urging them to adhere strictly to the various Covid-19 Protocols.
The Council who was represented by its vice Chairman, Comrade Muhammad Sabiu, applauded the gesture, said they have learned new things from the lecture and will do everything possible within their reach to curtail further spread of the virus.
“We have been able to learn new things today. Most of our members were not aware that their gadgets can contract the virus. But from the lectures, we have come to the realization that there is more to what we have been hearing. He said.
Comrade Sabiu stressed that the Covid-19 Protocols have been in place, however more efforts will be put in place to ensure that the temperature of anybody coming into the Secretariat is tested with the thermometer.
