A youth group under the aegis of Nigerian Youths for Credible Elections 2015 yesterday staged a peaceful protest in Abuja insisting on the conduct of the February general election.
The youths who addressed journalists at the national secretariat of the All Progressive Congress (APC) claimed that from all indication, the President Gooduck Jonathan led administration is keen on aborting the general election billed to start with the presidential poll on the 14th of February.
Spokesperson for the group, Hajia Zainab Galadima said that they became suspicious of government intentions after the National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki came out in the open to say there was need to shift the poll due to insecurity and the need to ensure adequate distribution of the Permanent Voters Card (PVC).
But Ms Galadima insisted that such excuses were not tenable enough to shift elections that has already been scheduled by the Professor Attahiru Jega led Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Flanked by officials of the group, she argued that if elections could hold in countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria facing worse security challenges, nothing stops Nigeria with a minimal case of insurgency attacks from holding election.
