A Non Government Organisation , Alive and Thrive (A&T) has said the most critical time for good nutrition is the first 1000 days of a child, because it determines whether the child would developed fully to exploit his potential or impaired with brain damage due to malnutrition.
The Team leader of the NGO in the state, Mr Christopher Musa, disclosed this , at a One-day Orientation for 23 Focal Persons of the state’s Traditional Leaders Committee on Health held in Kaduna yesterday.
He therefore said there is need to support traditional leaders to help spread Infant and Young Child Feeding ( IYCF ) messages and mobilise their community members to embrace adequate IYCF practices,
Musa solicited the support of the traditional leaders to promote adequate Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) for healthy development and survival of children in Kaduna State.
According to him engaging the traditional leaders can help sensitise the community on adequate IYCF practices.
He explained that the A&T IYCF programme running in the state from 2016 to 2020 was an initiative designed to save lives, prevent illness, and ensure healthy growth and development of children through improved feeding practices.
He said that the NGO is being funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the government of Canada and Ireland and managed by Family Health International (FHI360).
