Benue Socio-cultural Groups have slammed Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG for its call on declaration of State of Emergency in the state.
The group consisting of Mdzough U Tiv, Omny’Igede and Idoma National Forum made the condemnation yesterday during an interaction with journalists in Makurdi.
Leader of the group Chief Edward Ujege who questioned the existence and authenticity of such group led by one Mallam Abdul Azeez Suleiman, described it as ‘tribal and lawless’, only meant to cause more confusion so that Benue people will not get justice.
He noted that such coalition cannot exist without the inclusion of Benue, adding that the group is a lawless one.
Chief Ujege vowed that the State will oppose any State of Emergency, stating that they will resort to legal means to do so.
“It will be an illegality to declare any state of emergency. The constitution does not permit for declaration of State of Emergency.
The crisis in Benue is an invasion by herdsmen on farmers. The call is deliberate, meant to subdue the anti-open grazing law which followed due process. We will protect the law with our blood”, he vowed.
