The Chairman and President of Institute of Strategic Human Capital Managers, ISHCM Mr. Joseph Bolade Oyekunle has called on government at all levels to take human capital development more seriously.
Speaking at the first induction and training programme for members of the Institute in Lagos during the weekend, Oyekunle pointed out the neglect of training and education over the years as major reasons the nation is beset with loss of human value, constant labour unrest, Boko
Haram insurgency, kidnapping among other challenges.
According to Oyekunle, the Institute of Strategic Human Capital Managers was established under the Act 1 of 1990 and approved by Federal government with the core objectives of training, retraining,
training the trainers and human capital development, and as well the ultimate aim to produce quality managers that can meet the test of time in all organic business functions, adding that if it were possible to train Dogs, Cats and wild animals to make them useful for economic wellbeing much is expected from human being, he said.
He further emphasized the significance of human capital development and its overall benefits to national development, his word; “ in the human Development Index, popularly referred to as H.D.I ,the first thing to consider is training and education, thereafter you talk about health and social well being, food, shelter and protection. No nation can develop without these priorities in good perspective ….., human being is the most valuable asset of every organization, it is the wealth of the nation, therefore, training and retraining is congruent to human development,” the chairman concluded that this is the feasible way to achieve corporate objectives and that the untrained persons become obsolete over time.
The training session which had Prof. Taiwo Osipitan. SAN. as its chairman was well attended by members from different parts of the country with carefully selected resource persons with the wealth of theoretical and practical knowledge at different segment of the two day training session.
