Indications has emerged that there is plan by the Benue state government to sack the Principal of Governor Gabriel Suswam’s alma-mater, Government College, Makurdi, Mr. Godfrey Apine Ugudu.

It could be recalled that Mr. Ugudu, during an interview with journalists last weekend, disclosed about a plot by the dreaded Boko Haram to attack the college and abduct some students.

He had intimated that a letter was written on a piece of paper on the May 14, which was slipped through the staff room, wherein he claimed that the sect threatened to attack the school on May, 19 abduct some boys and marry them to the Chibok girls.

Following the disclosure, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) issued an immediate instruction to the state’s Police Command to intensify security around the college as well as Mount Saint Gabriel Secondary school, which is also a boys’ school that shares boundary with Government College.

Meanwhile, within government circle, the Governor was said to have been furious with the comments of the principal, which according to an anonymous source, regretted that Mr. Ugudu acted ultra- vires, breaching civil service rules.

“He ought to have taken permission from the Commissioner of Education or a superior authority before speaking to the press. Now the issue has assumed this dimension, such that the international press (CNN) has reported the story. The governor is really worried and has had sleepless night over the issue”, the source stated.

When asked few days ago whether there are speculations in certain quarters to sack the principal, the Commissioner of Education, Mrs. Elizabeth Ugoh simply said ‘no comments’. But there are fillers that the state governor is seriously considering sacking the principal for opening his mouth too wide and throwing the entire state into a tense mood.
