Katsina state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu Shema has approved the release of the sum of N307 million for the payment of 2013/ 2014 scholarship allowances to students of tertiary institutions across the country.
A statement signed and made available to newsmen by the Deputy Accountant General of the state, Alhaji Kabir Yusuf Bakori on behalf of the state commissioner of finance, said the scholarship is for 23, 495 continuing students spread across 95 higher institutions in the country.
The statement noted that the payment of the allowances would soon commence, adding that the release of the funds was in accordance with the spirit of the administration’s commitment to uplifting the standard of education in the state”.
It further advised students to take their studies serious and reciprocate the government gesture and contribute their quota towards the development of the state.
It could be recalled that apart from students undergoing studies in various institutions across the state, the government was also sponsoring scores of students on overseas studies in areas such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy and Arabic calligraphy among others.
