From Ahmad Ibrahim, Lokoja

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has presented a budget of N130, 546, 068, 026 billion for 2021 fiscal year.
Presenting the budget before the state House of Assembly in Lokoja yesterday, governor Bello disclosed that the budget represents an increase of N7, 575, 110, 017 or 6.16 percent, when compared to the budget of outgoing year.
Tagged “Budget of Accelerated Recovery”, the governor disclosed that the recurrent revenue for the 2021 fiscal year stands at N82, 464, 412, 854, while the recurrent expenditure stands at N74, 047, 160, 482, even as estimated capital receipts is N48, 081, 655, 172.
The governor however stressed the need for the leaders at all levels across the country to rethink the basic suppositions with the citizens, insisting that while those at the helm of affairs thought they are doing their best, the citizens are becoming increasingly frustrated with a polity that is no longer meeting their yearnings and aspirations.
He added that the recent protests across the country has shown that all is not well, stressing that concerted effort s must be geared by leaders at all levels, to resolve issues of human rights, internal security, food security and economic empowerment, with a view to securing the future of the country.
According to the governor, his administration has decided to craft a budget that would address the pressing issues confronting the state, even as he hoped that similar urgencies would be activated at all levels across the country, so as not to be consumed by generalized disenchantment, currently spreading across the land.
The speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole had earlier in a welcome address, commended the governor for his efforts at repositioning the state, saying the present administration has done so much in human and infrastructural developments, upon it’s assumption of office about five years ago.
