From David Hassan, Gombe
Gombe state Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has called on government to do as much as possible to ensure that means of livelihood is sustained among the Internal Displaced Persons( IDPs).
The overseeing Executive Secretary of the agency in Gombe, Mrs Larai Maigari made the appeal yesterday in an interview with our reporter in her office.
She said since January 14th this year which she was mandated to over see the activities of the agency nothing tangible was given either from the government or Nongovernmental organizations, NGOs, as part of relief materials to alleviate the suffering of Internal Displaced Persons.
She decried that something have to be done to ensure that the affected persons get means of livelihood within the society.
According to her, staff of the agency could not longer access problems that affect IDPs directly due to none provision of relief materials by the government and non governmental organizations.
She said staff of the agency are been accused by IDPs for accessing their problems and yet nothing is forthcoming which according to her said the IDPs claimed if funds is given to tackle their problems will not be utilized for their livelihood
The overseeing executive secretary who did not hide her feelings said the activities of SEMA does not mean to cheat IDPs but to ensure that they get means of livelihood as other people in the society.
While emphasising her comments she said alot of IDPs could not afford food on their table which she described as a challenge in SEMA.
Speaking further, she said since 2017 when government donated relief materials through SEMA to alleviate the suffering of Internal Displaced Persons nothing was giving since then as part of relief materials to IDPs.
She called on government and non governmental organizations not to hesitate to come to the aid of the vulnerable one and donate relief materials to alleviate the suffering of the people.
