Glitz, glamour, suspense and excitement reigned supreme recently at Government Secondary School, Aloce in Nasarawa State. The event was none other than the college’s inaugural quiz competition and prize award.

Held in the school’s spacious auditorium, the quiz which encompasses Art, Science and Current Affairs was sponsored by an old student of the school, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Soja  Anyembugu.

The cleric, who incidentally is also a notable author and president of the old Boys association of that school, said he decided to sponsor the competition as a way of giving back to the college which moulded him into what and who he has become.

“I graduated from the school exactly 20 years ago,” Anyembugu, the Parish Priest of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, New Nayanya, Disclosed at the colorful ceremony. “Looking back now, I could discern that the training my mates and I received there was quite significant. Hence, I have decided to motivate the younger generation by sponsoring this Quiz”.

And what a competition it turned out to be! For several hours (spiced with memorable cultural dances) the students held all and sundry spell bound with their intellectual prowess, even as they battled to win the mouth-watering prizes at stake.

The Nasarawa state Deputy Governor, Senator Solomon Ewuga, many old boys of G.S.S. Aloce, parents, and a host of others graced the event in droves, even as commendations flowed like confetti as all and sundry lauded the Catholic priest’s exemplary gesture.
