From Mattew Aramunde, Lagos
Igbo community in Lagos speaking through their traditional prime minister, high chief Dr Innocent Echefu has called on the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos to hand over the governorship ticket to Dr. Muiz Banire or they will shift their loyalty to the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The traditional ruler noted that gone were the days where candidates were unilaterally imposed on the electorates, stressing that the new trend which should be imbibed by all Nigerians is that the people should choose their leaders themselves.
Speaking further, he said their choice; Muize Banire was made by them having followed albeit doggedly his track record of absolute stewardship in government and the successes recorded in the private sectors.
His word: “Muiz Banire is a tested, trusted and proven astute politician that delivered the dividends of democracy as a commissioner, as the legal adviser of the party and so we are fully convinced that he will take this state to a higher level when he is sworn in as the governor of Lagos state”.
When reminded that an Igbo indigene has also signaled his intention in the governorship race of Lagos State, the traditional ruler retorted that their choice is not based on tribal sentiment nor do they arrived at the decision to support Banire under the guise of religious colouration, but that they premised their decision on the popular axiom that says ” who the cat fits, let him wear it”.
