The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila has congratulated the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states, Yahaya Bello and David Lyon, for emerging victoriously.
Gbajabiamila, in a congratulatory message by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi, said the victories recorded by the APC candidates in the two states was an indication of the wide acceptance the party enjoys in the two states.
The Speaker said Bayelsa State, in particular, has now joined the Next Level train, having seen the massive change driven by the APC-led government at the federal level.
“It is gladdening to know that our party, the APC, came out victorious in the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states. This is a testimony that Nigerians across the length and breadth of the country are beginning to realise what the APC means for the country.
“This victory is not for the party or its members alone, but for the entirety of Nigerians.
“May I call on the two governors-elect to be magnanimous in victory. The APC stands for the good of Nigerians, and I know the two governors-elect are part of the journey to make Nigeria better,” the Speaker said.
He called on the people of the two states, including members of the opposition parties, to join hands with the governors-elect to make their states great.
In the same vein, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representative, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase has congratulated David Lyon of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on his emergence as the Governor-elect of Bayelsa State following his victory in Saturday’s governorship election held in the state.
Wase equally congratulated Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state for his re-election for the second term as the executive governor of the state.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Umar Muhammad Puma, Wase implored the Governors-elect to work closely with all persons and interest groups to move their States to the next level, while appealing to the people of the two states to remain law-abiding as the transition to new administration begins in earnest.
He said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deserves commendation for its conduct of the election, and advised the electoral umpire to properly appraise all aspects of the exercise and improve for future polls where necessary.
The Deputy Speaker said the victory has further confirmed that the APC is widely accepted by Nigerians from all walks of life, noting that the people of Kogi and Bayelsa states have by their votes decided to identify with Next Level Agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Noting that the election was widely observed to be free and fair with massive turn out of voters, he commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for doing a thorough job in ensuring a winner emerged through a transparent electoral process
While congratulating the people of Kogi and Bayelsa state, Wase urged candidates of other parties who lost in the polls to put the contest behind them and join hands with the winners to move the states forward.
