A former deputy governor of Katsina state, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Aminchi, has formally joined the gubernatorial race in the state, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

According to a press statement issued by the Aminci Campaign Headquarters, Katsina, signed by Abba Yusuf, Garba Aminci has twice served as deputy governor of Katsina State (between 1991 and 1993 as well as 2003 and 2007), so, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Aminchi has garnered more than enough experience to govern the state.

With his record of selfless stewardship during those two periods, Alhaji Garba can be regarded as the best man for the job. As a grassroots politician who learnt the nitty-gritty of politics from the master strategist – the late Umaru Musa Yar ‘Adua, Alhaji Garba began his flourishing career at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Kaduna as assistant engineer from where he moved to Aminci Bookshop, Funtua, as General Manager working there for ten years between 1977 and 1987.

It was while serving there that his community felt he needed to represent them in politics that he was pushed forward and elected as a councillor in Funtua local government in 1987.

The transition programme initiated by President Ibrahim Babangida which culminated in the gubernatorial election throughout the country in 1991 exposed Garba’s sterling attributes as his people demanded he served them in a higher capacity as vice-chairman, having been faithfully committed besides producing excellent result when he served them as a councilor. Within the same period, he was put forward to serve as the first civilian deputy governor of the state.

Between 2002 and 2003, he served as Commissioner for the Ministry of Religious Affairs and later deputy governor to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua between 2003 and 2007. In all of these, he not only provided leadership, he was selfless and proved that he is a man his people could trust. In 2008, he was appointed Nigeria’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, a position he held till 2012.

Besides these positions, he was at different times Chairman, Boundary Adjustment Committee; Chairman, Environment Protection Agency; Chairman, Katsina State Tenders Board, among others.

Aminci, born in 1954 at Funtua, had his primary education at Gudindi Primary School, Funtua between 1963 and 1969 after which he proceeded to government secondary school, Mashi between 1970 and 1972 for his secondary education. In 1973, he got admitted into government technical college, Kaduna and between 1975 and 1977. He was at Kaduna Polytechnics for a certificate course in electronics and telcom engineering. He also obtained advanced diploma certificate in legal studies at Bayero University, Kano in 2002. He is presently a student of the National Open University, Katsina study centre, pursuing a degree in peace study and conflict resolution.
