In his determined effort to improve the socio-economic well being of his people through the provision of various viable infrastructures, Yobe state Governor, Alh. Ibrahim Gaidam has promised to take up the completion work on a soap industry in Yusufari town, the headquarters of Yusufari local government which was commenced but abandoned by the contractor, some 10 years ago.
The Governor made the promise yesterday at the request of the community in the area when the Governor, on inspection tour of some roads project, visited the area.
Though overjoyed by the Governor’s magnanimous and kind gesture in awarding contract for the construction of the Yunusari-Kafiya-Yusufari road which is part of the 300 kilometer Trans-Sahara road, the communities, through a representative, re-live the legendry Olive Twist in asking for more, requesting the governor to intervene in reviving the industry.
He explained that the contract for the industry was awarded to a contractor whose whereabouts could not be traced adding, “I was then a permanent secretary in the state ministry of commerce and industry. I went to Lagos to look for the contractor handling the project, but we could not trace him…he must have gone back to England.”
He then directed the Secretary to the State Government to liaise with the state investment company and the ministry of commerce to find contractors who would handle the project.
