From Yakubu Mustapha, Minna.
The Federal University of Technology, Minna has dismissed a lecturer from the Department of Geology, Mr Omananyi Yunusa Adinoyi over alleged case of sexual harassment against a female student.
The University council’s 131st meeting approved the dismissal of the said lecturer to serve as deterrent to others in the institution, a demonstration that the council would not condone such negative behaviours.
The alleged sexual harassment was against a female student in the department who attends a course taught by Omananyi.
Investigation revealed that the case was a hush case as most staff members in the University were unaware of the development. Most of the departments, especially the Information Department only got the dismissal notice and did not know when the case began.
In same vein, the Council has further approved the withdrawal of 13 students for poor academic performance in various departments of the institution.
It was gathered that all the affected students, except one who is studying for a PGD programme, were Masters’ students.
Six of the students are in the department of Biochemistry, three from the department of Mathematics, two from the department of Mechanical Engineering and one from the department of Computer Science.
