From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna
The Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has said the Fulani as a people and ethnic group don’t advocate for violence against any ethnic group. He stated this in a tweet yesterday.
According to him, the Fulani for centuries have lived peacefully with people of all nationalities and tribes within and outside of Nigeria. He added that it is unfair to tag or condemned the whole of the Fulani race as mass murderers.
The Senator said it is cowardly for those who needed to speak out to choose to remain silent for political expediency.
“Fulanis are themselves victims of killer herdsmen and kidnappers. Armed herdsmen are dangerous criminals constituting a threat to our peace. If we all agree that there are good and bad people in all tribes and ethnic groups, then it’s so with the Fulani people.
“Herdsmen who kill and burn are nothing but terrorists; and they should be properly addressed and treated as such. The new rave of criminalizing and generalizing the Fulani must be rejected and condemned by all,” he said.
Similarly, the lawmaker said President Muhammadu Buhari can never aid or abet or condone killings or genocide in a country he fought so hard with his life to unite and now lead.
He however said, the President has a moral and constitutional duty to end the violence without delay, excuses or shifting blames.
