Fosla Football Academy, Karshi, Abuja, has qualified for the FCT Principals Cup quarter-final.
The coach Gilbert Igwe-led lads whitewashed their opponents, Government Secondary School, GSS, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, 6-1 in a match played at the Government Secondary School, Karu, centre of the Karu zone of the Principal Cup.
Adejo Gabriel opened the scoring in 14 minutes when he converted a penalty. Prior to the penalty, the two teams played a cagy game as they sized themselves. The score line was increased to 2 three minutes later when Abdulsalam Hassan scored a free-kick from outside the 18 yard box.
The Fosla Academy, having discovered their rhythm, pressed harder and their efforts yielded result as Ojukwu Chidere made it 3-0 three minutes later. But the GSS boys reduced the deficient 2 minutes later courtesy of Bogunjoko David’s strike. The score line remained 3-1 at half time.
Adejo Gabriel continued from where he left in the score chart as he increased the tally to 4-1 within 10 minutes of restart. Zakari Amod added the fifth goal in 72 minutes before Adejo Gabriel completed his hat trick of the afternoon with a simple tap after GSS Wuse 3 goalkeeper was well beaten in his goal post. The match ended 6-1 in favour of the Karshi-based side and handed them the winner from Karu Zone.
Speaking after the match, coach of the GSS boys, Mr Udechi Emmanuel said he was sad over the defeat but expressed confident in his team going forward as they prepare for the City play-off.
“I feel very bad but I am happy for my team. In our next match we will work harder. We have qualified from this zone so we will represent Karu in the next play-off in the city centre. This match was to determine the first and second best teams from this centre,” Mr Udechi said.
On the organization of the tournament, Mr Udechi said “I will give the organizers 70% but they need to do more. The officiating has been good.”
On his part, coach of the victorious side, Mr Gilbert Igwe expressed joy over his wads’ progress in the competition adding that their qualification to the quarter-finals of the Principals Cup is one step closer to their dream of reaching the finals.
“I am very happy with the result because we have qualified from this zone as the overall winner. But that is not the end because we will go back home and make corrections. We are strongly preparing for the national stage and I pray God will see us through in our quest,” Mr Igwe said
Adejo Gabriel emerged as the highest goals corer from Karu Centre with 5 goals while Chidera Ojukwu has 3 goals.
The quarter-finals will start on Monday, November 27 at Area 3 Play Ground.
Dignitaries who watched the match were former NFF President and proprietor of Fosla Academy, Alhaji Sani Lulu; FCT FA Board Member in charge of youths’ sports development, Mr Zakari Musa, among others.
