From Ahmed Kaigama, Bauchi
Former Minister of Police Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Yakubu Lame, has described as dangerous and dictatorship in a democracy the last week gagging of the press by the Nigerian military.
“It is the most dangerous thing to have in a democracy. Once you do that you are showing some tendency of dictatorship and you can’t have dictatorship in a democracy”, he said.
Lame, while also describing the ransacking of newspaper houses and their wares as gagging the people, said dictatorship in a democracy is more dangerous than military dictatorship.
The former Minister while fielding journalists’ questions shortly after the inauguration of the Bauchi state APC Executives in Bauchi Monday said that such action of the military must be stopped by Nigerians generally.
“It must be stop by patriotic Nigerians, and I believe Nigerians have the capacity to do something about it”, Also a Bauchi All Progressive Congress (APC) Gubernatorial aspirant told the journalists.
He similarly tagged the military action against the press last week as condemnable which each and every Nigerian including the journalists must stand out against it.
According to him, it is not just enough for people to think that only politicians can solve problems, hence the need for all Nigerians to condemn that act perpetrated by the military.
