Former secretary to Katsina state government and chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, Dr Mustapha Inuwa Muhammad was yesterday elected the chairman of the party in the state.
The former SSG, who is currently having a running battle with Governor Ibrahim Shema, polled 1004 to defeat his closest rival, Abdullahi Murja who got 776 votes in a poll by 2033 delegates from 31 council areas of the state.
Announcing the results, chairman of the Katsina state APC congress committee, Abba Wali Bello, said it was the best congress ever conducted in the history of the state and the party noting “there is no victor, no vanquish as everybody is a winner”

He insisted that the peaceful nature of the congress has further proven that the party has all it takes to safeguard the nation’s democracy adding that APC members in the state had proved cynics wrong.
“The party has emerged out of this more united and I hope we will sustain the unity for the progress and development of the party,” he said. He noted that the entire exercise was done based on strict adherence to principles of democracy.
In a post election speech, the new Katsina state APC chairman, appealed for support and cooperation of party members assuring that he would put in his best to ensure that a virile party will confront the challenges ahead.
