The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gusau, Zamfara state has commissioned a modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) equipped with 10 beds and Echocardiography centre with a view to accommodate patients travelling to other states for medical checks and treatments.
The development was announced by the Medical Director (MD) of the centre, Dr. Bello Muhammad Kotorkoshi during commissioning ceremony of the facilities in the premises of the Federal Medical Center Gusau.
Dr. Kotorkoshi said the ICU and Echocardiography center is established and therein provided with 10 Respiratory Ventilators and 10 Monitors aimed to ensure best and effective medical services at an affordable price to enable the citizens of the state access qualitative services.
“We upgraded the 10 bedded ICU equipped with 10 Infusion Pump, Gas Analysing Machine and 2 Depribrilators along the functioning Echocardiography centre design to detect holes in the heart and Valves that are not functioning in the heart as well.
“We also worked hard to achieve this in order to reduce the stress suffered by patients who travels to Sokoto, Zaria or Kano to seek medical services,” Kotorkoshi has added.
Kotorkoshi stressed that more plans were in pipeline aimed to improve the centre and make it Centre of Medical Excellence (CME) and a Referral Centre (RC) for the benefit of entire north west region.
The MD further informed that, the ICU and Echo projects were funded from the 2020 capital projects and COVID-19 Intervention Funds as he commended the management, staff, and unions for their support to uplift the standard of the hospital.
