A ferocious fire outbreak in the early hours of yesterday destroyed 380 shops at Magamar Jibia Market in Jibia local government area of Katsina State.
According to the Information Officer of the local government, Alhaji Sa’adu Sulaiman the fire started at a place in the market where two mad men set fire to get some warmth from the freezing cold in the area.
” when the two mad men set the fire to warm their body it later overpowered them and spread to nearby shops where it destroy them” he added.
He noted that the affected areas in the market include sections where they are selling guinea brocade, grains and provisions, adding that the properties destroyed by the fire are worth hundred of millions of naira.
He however, added that no life was lost in the fire but stated that most of the traders have lost their total investment in the incident.
Similarly, the chairman of the local council, Alhaji Aminu Lawal Jibia expressed sadness over the incident, disclosing that the council would assess the damage caused by the fire and look at appropriate ways of preventing future occurrences.
