Fintiri Calls For Unity Govt

Adamawa state Governor- elect Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has implored his opponents in the Governorship partner him for an appreciable development of the state.
Hon. Fintiri made the plea in a state broadcast to the people at the weekend in Yola.
He stressed that elections have been contested and won, but to move the State forward, all parties must join hands in making his administration successful.
“Even though elections have been won and lost,therefore I will like to extend the hands of fellowship to all the contestants to join me in ensuring that the people of Adamawa state in particular are served .
“I always use this medium to call on the people of Adamawa whom entrusted me with this mandate to come behind us the campaigns with a sole to succeed.
“Those who contrbuted to this successful journey no matter how small I express my warm gratitude and pledging to deliver all our campaign promises with your sincere support and prayers “.
Fintiri also assured the people of the State of his desire to pay the #30,000 national minimum wage as approved by the Federal Government “payment of the minimum wage is his priority “.He stated.
According to him, “since President Muhammadu Buhari signed the bill into law, I will implement it in Adamawa State to the letter so that we don’t task ourselves of going to strike “.
He however stressed that Adamawa State people have been emancipated from the forces of retrogression by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in the State.
Fintiri who won on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, had earlier served as Acting Governor of the State on two occasions.
He promised not to take the confidence reposed in him by the people of the State for granted.
“Also my area of concern will be to turn around the Civil Service to make them more productive and effective aimed at delivering the programmes and policies of the government “, he added.
While calling on the electorate to be calm and law abiding, as according to him, the “rejection of the incumbent Governor should serve as a lesson on what awaits any other governor that fails to live up to the needed expectations of the people”.
On youths programme by his government,he assured that, “as one of them, I will ensure that they get a better education, give them jobs and vocational training and improve on the Skills Acquisition Programme that will make the Youths more reliable”.
Commenting on the victory of their candidate,Zonal Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP,Alhaji Kabiru Bappah who was in the state to monitor the conduct of the supplementary governorship election, said the exercise was a hitch-free and successful one.
Bappah confessed that initially he thought it will be problematic but the people of Adamawa were peaceful and had their election orderly which must be commended by all standards.
Also, outgoing Governor Muhammad Umaru Jibrilla, has congratulated the Governor -elect Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and wished successful tenure of office as elected Governor of the state.
Governor Jibrilla issued the congratulatory message via a televised broadcast aired weekend in the state, thanking the electorate and people of the state for the support and cooperation accorded his government.
Peoples Daily recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC declared Rt.Hon.Ahmadu Fintiri winner of the concluded supplementary governorship election Friday’s morning when returning officer of the election,Professor Andrew Haruna made the announcement as provided by electoral laws.
Professor Haruna declared that,Rt.Hon Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP. polled 376,552 votes to emerged victorious in the contest while Incumbent Governor Umaru Jibrilla of All Progressives Congress, APC got 336,386 to be second as Senator Abdulazeez Nyako of African Democratic Party,ADC scored 133,237 for third position in the race.
According to the returning officer,total number of registered voters was,1,973,083,total number of accredited voters was,905,346,total valid votes were,871,307.while rejected votes and total votes cast in the exercise stood at 27,790 and 899,097 as the margin (differences) between the two major contenders ( Fintiri & Bindow) was 40,166 votes .
