Yobe State Governor, Alh. (Dr.) Ibrahim Gaidam has finally and formally accepted the endorsement and calls from party loyalists and groups to contest for re-election as the governor of the state in the coming 2015 election, affirming that his numerous visible achievements within his first tenure was behind the call.
He stated this yesterday at the Yobe stadium, Damaturu, on the occasion of his formal declaration of acceptance of his endorsement and call for him to re-contest for the governorship seat of the state in the 2015 election by his party, the APC and other groups in the state.
“We have always believed that our modest contributions will speak for us. I also want to believe that one of the reasons why you have endorsed me is because you have records to justify your action,” Gaidam said.
He pointed out that his administration has fulfilled over 90% of the promises made to the electorates during the 2011 election campaign in all sectors of the state economy, health, education, water, road, reduction of employment and women empowerment among all, pointing out that service to humanity is something instinctive, inherited from his religious upbringings.
“I was born in a humble family of scholars and imbibed the principles of fear of God, servicing the common good with humility, governance with integrity, transparency and accountability in managing resources among others,” the governor added.
The fact speaks for itself because, despite meager resources from the federation account which is currently besieged with expenses in support of security agencies fighting the insurgency that has as well continued to sap the purse of the state, Gaidam’s administration have been paying salaries to civil servants, allowances, gratuities and pensions as and when due.
He stated that the state government is spending the sum of N250 million monthly as allowances along, fueling and repairs of security vehicles, assistances to families of security personnel killed in action, payment of medical bills of those of them with various degrees of injury in the fight with insurgents adding that from the beginning of the insurgency to date, the accumulated expenditure of government is over N10 billion.
One of the areas that the administration of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has performed very well is in the area of poverty reduction and employment in which over 20,000 youth have been trained in various skills and trades and empowered in addition to over 8000 unemployed diploma holders which have been engaged and placed on a monthly payment of N15, 000.00 each.
On road construction, he disclosed that his administration is currently constructing a total of 911.9kilometer of intra and inter town road networks with full asphalt overlay and143.6 kilometer of drainages, adding that the township roads in the major towns in the state have been provided with 2,846 poles of solar powered street light covering a distance of 71.2 kilometers at the total cost of N2.948 billion.
