The minister stated that Nigeria was at present at the top stratum in sports development in the continent because of the commitment of President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to him, “the road to stardom is not easy but the President had to convene a National Summit on Sports after the London Olympics where stakeholders brained stormed and came up with a new roadmap on the way forward in sports and this has imparted positively on the nation’s sports fortunes in recent times”.

The Minister assured that Nigeria will continue to collaborate and offer support to other African countries to strengthen bilateral ties amongst them.

Earlier in his remarks, the Tanzanian High Commissioner, Ambassador Njoolay said he was at the Sports Commission to seek ways of improving sports development in his country.

The Envoy, who lamented the dwindling fortunes in sports in his country, stated that a bilateral relationship between both countries would transform into a success story in sports for Tanzania.

He used the occasion to congratulate Nigeria on her 54th national independence, stressing that Nigeria’s position in the continent has been very commendable as she had contributed immensely to the independence of many African countries.

Both countries are said to enjoy bilateral relations in such area as judicial practices, military cooperation and lately the relationship between both countries is reported to have blossomed to the provision of mutual support to each other at the international arena.
