From Ado Abubakar Musa, Jos
The Federal Government has instituted legal action of certificate forgery against a Plateau State lawmaker, Hon. Ibrahim Baba Hassan who claimed to have obtained diploma certificate from University of Jos, at the Jos Judicial Division of Federal High Court 2.
Hasan was in 2015 general election declared winner of the Jos North-North constituency at the Plateau State House of Assembly on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC).
But the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, had challenged the authenticity of Hasan’s diploma certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), during the 2015 general election, saying the submitted certificate by Hasan was fake.
However, the absence of Justice Musa Kurya has stalled the continuation of the hearing; and no reason was officially given for his absence.
In an 8 count- charge filed by the federal government and signed by the Deputy Director, Public Prosecution of ministry of justice, Grace Ekanem, said the charges were punishable under section 467 of criminal code act.
In the second sitting, the counsel to the FG, Matthew Odu, had insisted that Hassan should be remanded, but Justice Kurya adjourned the case for ruling on whether or not to remand the lawmaker.
