The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh has promised to support the Military in its quest to achieve self- sufficiency in food production for its staff and the country at large.
The Minister made this commitment during a courtesy visit on him by a delegation from the Nigerian Army led by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai yesterday.
Ogbeh said that the Ministry is prepared to offer assistance in the area of land clearing, establishment of nurseries and accessing of loans from commercial banks.
The Minister seized the opportunity of the visit to express gratitude to the Military for the risk taken on a daily basis to keep the nation safe and for the interest shown in developing the nation’s Agricultural sector.
According to the Minister, “If we can cut down on importation of food, we can achieve self-sufficiency in food production”.
Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai commended the Minister for the feat achieved in rice production and called on the Federal Government to support the Farmer Investment Initiative of the Military. This support, he noted would further boost the initiative.
