The federal government has launched an electronic curriculum portal for primary and secondary schools to enhance quality and access to education at the basic level.

The portal, launched yesterday in Abuja was a web-based, efficient and effective curriculum delivery solution for learners, teachers, education managers and other stakeholders.

The e-curriculum will provide teachers across the country with opportunities to compare notes learn new teaching methods from one another and build each other’s capacity through collaborative teaching resources provided on it.

According to Minister of state for education, Nyesom Wike, the initiative is a positive step taken to provide access and aid teaching and learning in Nigerian schools.

The Minister said the portal will provide digital access to school curricula, provision of sample teaching resources for teachers to prepare lesson notes and provision of sample learning materials for the learners.

“Other benefits of the electronic curriculum includes provision of a concept management structure for aiding learner resources, students’ access to learner resources, and access to modules for various stakeholders in the e-curriculum materials”, he said.

He said the portal will assist the nation educationally, as it will make primary and secondary education curriculum available to all stakeholders adding that the number of curricula distributed to schools recently was inadequate, hence the introduction of the portal.

Speaking, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research Development Council (NERDC), Prof. Godswill Obioma, said with the availability of the portal online teachers, learners and other relevant stakeholders can have easy access to primary and secondary education teaching and learning resources.

According to him, the purpose of the e- curriculum is to ensure online access to the prescribed national curriculum in all subjects offered at the senior secondary education level in Nigeria.

He said anybody that is able to use a mobile phone can access the web-site.
