The federal government has inaugurated new Board of Trustees Trust Fund for the Hadejia Jamaare Komadugu Yobe Basin(HJKY-TF).
The inauguration was done by the Minister of Water Resources, Eng. Suleiman H. Adamu, yesterday, in Abuja.
Inaugurating the BoT Trust Fund, the minister said that the terms of reference for the new board of trustees for the trust fund include managing and superintending the affairs of the trust fund, and approving the rules and regulations for carrying on the functions of the trust fund. Also included as the term reference for the BoT was fixing the terms and conditions of service including remuneration of employees of the trust fund.
The minister charged the new BoT trust fund to hit the ground running by immediately completing the job of resuscitating the trust fund.
The basin BoT trust fund was created by six states. The states are Plateau, Bauchi, kano, Jigawa, Borno and Yobe.
The list of the basin new BoT trust fund, as mentioned by the minister, include Eng. Mailadi Yusuf Abba Misau, Alhaji Umar Azare, Eng. Baba Isah Biu, Dr. Shugba Umara Gana, Mr. Nuhu Musa Kazaure, Mohammed Adamu Danzamo, Yusuf Ado Kibiya, Eng. Atiku Abubakar Ahmed Dungurawa,. Arc. Pam Dung Gyang, Chief Ndam Gambo, Eng. Mohammed Mustapha, and Mallam Gambomi Goni. Each one of the six states is represented by two members of the above listed members.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the permanent secretary of the water ministry, Dr. Musa Ibrahim, who stated that the significance of the decision to resuscitate the trust fund at this time can’t be overemphasised, said the summit of the six riparian states governors held from 15th- 16th may, 2017 in Jos to reawaken the trust fund to sustain the organisation.
He added that at the summit, part of the resolve was to reconstitute the board of trustees to enable the trust fund fulfill her mandate which will improve livelihood of the population in the basin.
In his speech, executive chairman of the basin trust fund, Dr. Hassan Bdliya, said that the inauguration would resuscitate the basin, even as he charged the members on delivery on the mandate given to them.
In the acceptance speech, Eng. Mailadi Yusuf Abba Misau, who spoke on behalf of the other members, concluded by thanking the minister for giving them the opportunity, and promised that they were not going to let him down.
