The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Arc. Sonny Echono has inaugurated the Presidential Committee on Sustainable funding for education in Nigeria.
Arc. Echono who is himself the Chairman of the Committee said the responsibility of sustainable funding of education is a national assignment that must be taken seriously, adding that his committee will approach the assignment with all the seriousness its deserves.
He enjoined committee members to seek ways of addressing the funding challenges at all levels in the sector with a view to repositioning education in Nigeria, stating that clear and workable ideas, innovations and suggestions on the best funding model for education in Nigeria should be their watchword.
The inauguration is a fall-out of the communique issued at the end of stakeholders workshop on sustainable funding for education in Nigeria held at the State House Conference Centre (Old Banquet Hall), Abuja, from 27th– 28th November, 2018 which was chaired by the Vice President, His Excellency, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
Earlier, in the year, President Muhammadu Buhari had directed Education Minister, Adamu Adamu, as he then was, to come up with innovative ways of sustainable funding for education in the country.
The Committee has three weeks within which to submit its report to the Minister of Education.
